The ideal candidate will have a background in fluid mechanics, cavitation and flow induced vibrations, hydro turbine performance testing and data analysis for electrical power generating plants. The candidate should also be familiar with hydro plant condition monitoring and plant optimization. The candidate should have a background in mechanical vibrations of rotating equipment and an understanding of fluid flow measurement techniques. This position will be working on a team responsible for monitoring the fleet of TVA hydro turbines, looking for operating and performance anomalies and supporting troubleshooting.
Serves as a Sr. Engineer and Subject Matter Expert in the field of Performance, Monitoring and Diagnostics and related processes for the Non-Nuclear Generating Fleet. Performs and directs analysis of thermal and hydro performance for the Non-Nuclear Generating Fleet. Assists production units in early identification of equipment and system problems including providing analysis to support trouble shooting problem areas as requested.
As work needs dictate perform or directs cross-discipline engineering work to optimize performance of plant equipment, apparatus, and facilities for all coal, gas & hydro fossil plants. The incumbent is responsible for monitoring, analysis, evaluation, and investigation of reliability issues in systems, processes, and equipment. Supports monitoring and alarm resolution of other business units including Nuclear and Transmission. Initiates improvements to optimize achievement of plant, fleet, and/or system business plan objectives. Ensures fleet system wide replication of solutions and standardization as appropriate.
May serve as project engineer for assigned projects, including large, cross-discipline, and more complex projects. Serves as technical advisor to the SMEs and site personnel for Advanced Pattern Recognition (APR) models, analytics, and thermal and hydro performance.
Other duties as assigned by supervision
Supervision and guidance is provided by the Senior Manager, Performance, Monitoring and Diagnostics. Supervision is generally limited to overall objectives, general guidelines and policy, and work priorities with guidance provided for highly specialized tasks. The successful candidate plans and executes the work with minimal supervision
Skills and Proficiencies (May be job or organization specific)
Proficient in site/field engineering for Coal, Gas, Hydro Power Plant Systems and Equipment; Plant Operations and Maintenance; Industry Standards and Codes; Plan and direct testing; Spreadsheet, Graphics, SYNTHA, etc Software; Problem Solving & Analysis, i.e. Root Cause, FMEA/EMEA, Fault Tree, Weibull, etc.; Project Management, Construction Processes, Teamwork; Communication and Interpersonal; Initiative.
